Our COVID-19 Safety Plan
The Guidance Group is dedicated to supporting the health, happiness, and wellbeing of all of our clients and staff. As our society faces a rare and widespread public health challenge in the form of COVID-19, we want to do our best to continue to provide mental health and counseling services with the least amount of disruption possible.
In keeping with current recommendations from health & governmental organizations, we have elected to make a temporary adjustment to how we deliver our services. In order to minimize potential exposures and the risk of spread, we are temporarily suspending the offering of therapy appointments at our office locations, effective the week of March 15, 2020.
Until further notice, we will continue to offer our full schedule of availability, with minimal disruptions, via Telehealth.
The Guidance Group has a secure, encrypted Telehealth platform embedded in SimplePractice, our client portal. All clients who have active portal accounts are able to access Telehealth counseling / therapy with minimal set-up. Clients who have not yet set up a portal account can do so in less than 5 minutes by providing The Guidance Group with a preferred email account.
SimplePractice has provided a Getting Started Guide - Telehealth by SimplePractice FAQ, which accessible to all interested clients.
What is Telehealth?
Telehealth allows us to connect anywhere with secure and convenient appointments that save you time and hassle. There's no need to deal with traffic when you can schedule and attend your appointments directly from a laptop or mobile device.
What equipment do I need?
To participate in Telehealth appointments from your home or another private location, you will need one of the following devices:
- Desktop computer with a webcam, speakers, a 2.5 GHz processor, and 4 GB of RAM OR
- Laptop computer with built-in webcam and speakers, a 2.5 GHz processor, and 4 GB of RAM OR
- Tablet device with built-in webcam and speakers, OR
- Smartphone with at least iOS 10 or Android 6.0 (Note: To use a smartphone, you must first download Telehealth by SimplePractice - available for iOS or Android in the app store.)
- You will also need an internet connection that is at least 10mbps. For optimal results, a reliable, high-speed internet connection with a bandwidth of at least 10 mbps will minimize connection issues and provide the best quality.
What if I don’t have internet access?
Your Guidance Group therapist or staff will talk with you about your unique circumstances and develop a plan to maintain contact / support until office-based services can be resumed. This may involve contact via telephone.
How will I know when office appointments will be available again?
Our staff will be in contact with each current and new prospective client, and we will maintain a list of any people who may wish for us to reach out when the public health status allows for in-person sessions to resume. Additionally, we will be posting updates on this page as they are available.
Are you taking new clients at this time?
We understand that there is a lot of impact on people's emotional wellbeing during times of crisis and uncertainty. We want to offer ongoing support to our community, and given our capability of doing so via Telehealth, we are open to accepting new clients. We presently have availability for new client appointments within a day or two. Please bear in mind that depending on your needs, a staff person will talk with you to assess whether Telehealth care is appropriate to your clinical needs.
